Wild Fungi Tour at Hackney Community Tree Nursery

On the 1st of November a group of our volunteers attended a really informative session at the Hackney Tree Nursery led by the wonderfully named Tree Musketeers!

We enjoyed a tour of the site, learnt about the rich mycelial network and how the arboretum is maintained. We identified coral spot fungus, jelly fungus and some bracket fungus. We learnt about fruiting and non fruiting fungi and the importance of decaying wood and vegetation in sustaining whole communities of animal and fungal life.

The nursery germinates, grows and cares for hundreds of trees and is managed by a dedicated team of volunteers. It’s free to enter and a really beautiful place to spend a couple of hours, they also have a covered space, comfy chairs and books! The Tree Nursery plant trees in parks, on estates and other green spaces across Hackney.

You can follow them on Eventbrite to get notified of upcoming tree planting across Hackney plus other tree and nature-focused events.
