The Weeks Highlights: 17th May 2013

Over the last few weeks we’ve ben sowing coriander plants in amongst the brassica beds.
We’re creating a beautiful productive chemical free space and coriander is helping us on this
journey in so many different ways.
Without chemicals to manage pest and disease in the garden we are dependent on natural
mechanisms to control pests such as slugs and aphids. Growing nectar rich flowers not only
look beautiful but are feeding our top team of pest predators such as hoverflies.
Coriander is not only a fantastic food plant in its own right both as a salad vegetable, a green
herb and a dried spice, but is also reputed to be one of the most useful flowers in the garden
for attracting hoverflies!

Sunday Gardening 12-2pm
NB, extra special sunday Gardening May19th; its the same day as our Chelsea Fringe event
and we’ll have lots of extra helpers from London Slow Food Youth Network
Slow Food Youth Network will be sharing a picnic lunch after all their hard work- feel free to
bring food and join in!
Garden Lates every Wednesday 6-8pm all welcome! If the main gate is locked come to the
side gate for me to let you in..

A few dates I need help with over the next few weekends, let me know if you’re availible
1. Open Garden Squares- We’re a host site for Open Garden Squares weekend, it would be
great if I could have some people free for 2 hour lots over the weekend of 9th and 10th June
to show guests round the garden.
2. I’m away for 2 consecutive sundays 26/5/13 + 2/6/13 does anyone want to step up and be
me for the day?
