Every day community action is what the farm is all about. The CAT Project provides an ongoing programme of volunteer activities and learning sessions, which can lead to a qualification - the Certificate in Community Volunteering (CCV). The CAT project is run in partnership with Tower Hamlets College and operates around the following framework;
- Link Working Every volunteer has a staff link worker who offers support and guidance, and both gain insight through experience of new tasks and fresh perspectives.
- Reflective Practice is embedded into the CAT Project through self-evaluation and peer appraisal sessions. Volunteers keep diaries or portfolios, and make contributions to the farms newsletters and to the blog on this website.
- Events Volunteers help to plan and manage a range of events throughout the year, including local action days, community festivals, jumble sales and participation forums.
- Mentoring Volunteers with additional support or learning needs can access mentoring. The farm currently works with mentors from both the higher education and the corporate volunteering sectors.
- Team Learning Volunteers plan and participate in Skills Sharing workshops, Planning Forums and Learning Sessions in Animal Welfare, Stewardship, Project Management, Diversity Awareness, Health & Safety, Environmental Education, Community Development and Social Enterprise. These are planned and led by Coordinating staff, external specialists, and by the volunteers themselves. Volunteers can choose to build portfolios of evidence for the ASDAN Silver and Gold Awards in Community Volunteering.
