The farm offers an invaluable teaching resource. A visit can be used to teach all aspects of the curriculum through learning about animal care, gardening and sustainable living in the city
Our Education Programme is an exciting learning experience, linking farm resources with subjects across the curriculum. We welcome visits from all different learning stages, from nurseries, Children’s Centres, schools, (Primary and Secondary), Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) to any other educational body, formal or informal.
Practical interactive activities linking to Foundation & all Key Stages can be delivered at the Farm and sometimes at school.
Foundation Stage
At this stage the farm visit will introduce many children to new experiences that can help to build confidence, physical skills and help with the stepping stones of their development. We aim to help with the early learning goals you have to achieve. These cover:
Primary
Key Stage 1
The farm experience can widen the pupils’ first-hand experience in a whole range of visual, tactile and other sensory situations. Within this are the important messages of the life cycle and seasonal change. There is a wealth of opportunity for language development and literacy skills.
Key Stage 2
The visit can stimulate and excite pupils’ curiosity. It also satisfies their curiosity as they begin to apply their knowledge and understanding of ideas. Pupils can consider the farm as a good example of an environment affected by human activity. There is opportunity to study the farm as a case study for environmental sustainability.
There are many ways in which the farm can enrich the curriculum. English - Reading & writing animal stories & poems
Geography - Protecting the environment
Science - Habitats & care of living things
Art & Design - Rural crafts & Photography
PSHE & Citizenship -Where our food comes from & sustainable living
RE - Care for our world & festivals, eg. Harvest, Easter
PE - Animal movements, eating and health
Drama - Animal masks and puppets, enacting life cycles
