Members of the Coriander Club growing Kodus in one of the Vegetable gardens polytunnels Luftun Hussain has seen the Healthy Living Project grow from strength to strength since its beginnings as a pilot project in 2003. She learnt to grow fruit and vegetables on her fathers land whilst growing up in Bangladesh, and after moving to Britain in 1969 she began experimenting with growing Bangladeshi vegetables in her backyard in Tower Hamlets. She first joined the farm as a volunteer in 1999 and later secured a paid position as an ethnic minority support worker before progressing to her current role as the Healthy Living Project Coordinator The group, consisting mainly of older Bangladeshi women, continues to meet regularly for gardening and cookery sessions and for many it is a rare opportunity to exercise and socialize; exchanging recipes, sharing health concerns and celebrating their knowledge and heritage.
The Coriander Club is now funded by Grow With Us and holds a gardening session every Tuesday (women only) and cooking session 1st Monday of the month (women only).
