Everyone is telling us that we need to live more sustainable lifestyles but living in London that can often feel like a real challenge. How can we do our bit for biodiversity when we live in the heart of the concrete jungle or grow our own organic food when we’re living in the top floor flat of a high rise building? At the farm of course! We manage several gardens and growing spaces at the farm; producing organically grown fruit, vegetables and herbs and growing plants which are good for wildlife. We also sell compost bins and manure for your gardens and host a family of recycling bins for old clothes, cans, paper and all the usual recyclable stuff. Our staff and volunteers will be happy to give advice on composting and recycling and we sell a range of plants suited to growing in the city; most of which are also great for wildlife. The farm is a haven for local wildlife and we want to make it even better by linking up to Allen Gardens next door with wildflower meadows and native plants and eventually help create a wildlife corridor right into the hear of the city. ![]() Volunteers fixing a roof to be 'green' Our volunteers come in all shapes and sizes and from all walks of life to get involved in training sessions and workshops; helping to explore some of these issues further and to learn practical skills such as how to grow your own food or attract more butterflies to your garden. At the moment, we’re developing a sustainability strategy to implement ways in which to make the newly redeveloped farm greener then ever and then look at how we can help to turn the local area, Spitalfields, into London’s first Green Quarter. To find out how you can get involved contact Laura, the farm’s Community Horticulture Project Co-ordinator. Who’s involved? The project is managed by Laura Stobbart with lots of help from hard-working volunteers. We also welcome help from groups through our Corporate Volunteer Days. We would like to thank the following organisations for their financial support for the project in the past year:
