VOLUNTEER HIGH RISE GARDENING SUPPORT WORKER

Spitalfields City Farm needs volunteers to help in the gardens.

We are currently looking for dedicated green fingered volunteers to come and help look after the farm's wide selection of herbs and plants during the spring & summer months.

Tasks include:

watering (first thing in the morning, and late in the afternoon)most days especially weekends
weeding, mulching
seed sowing
potting up
maintaining vegetable allotments
caring for plant nursery

Experience is not essential, however we do ask for motivated individuals who are willing to commit to a minimum of 6 months volunteering. In return you will be joining a friendly, fantastic team of volunteers, and will be volunteering in a community environment.

VOLUNTEER HIGH RISE GARDENING SUPPORT WORKER

Spitalfields City Farm delivers off site High Rise Gardening workshops on several Peabody estates, in Kings Cross, Hackney and Southwark. The Farm is looking for someone with an interest in food growing or basic horticultural skills to support delivering these sessions. This is a voluntary role. The support worker will focus on helping service users to understand the instructions and/ or complete gardening tasks. Good people and communication skills are essential.

The role provides excellent experience in community gardening and an understanding of running workshops/sessions.

Support the Community Horticultural Co-ordinator to deliver High Rise gardening sessions off site
Supervise and support service users attending workshops

Environmental Education Volunteer Experience at Spitalfields City Farm

Would you like to gain experience in assisting the delivery of environmental education workshops to young people of Primary and Secondary school age?

We run a variety of educational projects introducing groups of young people to various aspects of City Farm life e.g. animal care, animal welfare, horticulture, questioning ‘where does our food come from?’, environmental awareness, climate change, active citizenship, work experience, life and key skills.

All activities will assist in National Curriculum requirements and will enable the young people involved to gain new experiences, work in groups, be outdoors and gain confidence in learning.

Your knowledge, enthusiasm and energy will be invaluable in assisting with the delivery of our educational projects. Knowledge of environmental education is desirable but not a necessity and experience working with children and young people is an advantage. Volunteers must be willing to work outdoors in all types of weather.
