September 2025 events newsletter - special edition

Welcome to a special events edition of your Farm newsletter! Coming up this September we have a series of unusual, one-off events that we'd love to see you at. Read on below for details, and see you very soon.

Harvest Festival: Saturday 20th

The annual Harvest Festival is a wonderful event that the Farm participates in every year. This year hosted by our friends at Mudchute City Farm, you can expect an animal show, a horticulture show, and a bunch of arts and crafts activities.

We will be taking some of our animals from Spitalfields City Farm, some of our produce for the horticulture competition, and our Young Farmers will be present too. Come and say hi to us!

This yearly event is run by London City Farms & Gardens.

Farm 'Power of Food Festival' event: Wednesday 24th

The Power of Food Festival is a 10-day festival across Tower Hamlets celebrating the borough’s community and food cultures, and showcasing local projects building fairer, more sustainable food systems. Running from 18–28 September, the festival has a packed programme of community meals, supper clubs, workshops, film screenings, photography exhibitions, kids’ activities, panel discussions, and tours of gardens and food-growing spaces.

On September 24th the Farm is hosting an event for this festival in collaboration with The Plateful Cafe to highlight the role food and cooking plays in different cultures. There will be a tour of the Farm's growing spaces led by our growers, where guests can learn more about the unique power of food and how it connects us to our different communities and cultures. This will be followed by a free informal lunch prepared by a chef from the Plateful Cafe.

The tour starts at 10.30 with lunch at around 12.30. Attendance is limited to 20. Please secure your ticket here!

Routes & Roots walking tour: Saturday 27th

Join the Right to Grow Tower Hamlets campaign as this tour celebrates the borough’s vibrant network of community food projects with the launch of our Roots & Routes map — a guide to gardens that honour local harvests, global food traditions, and the stories that connect people to the land and each other.

As part of the Power of Food Festival, this is a 2-hour walking tour on Saturday 27 September, exploring four community food gardens in Spitalfields and Bethnal Green, starting with a welcome tour at the Farm. Covering 3–4 miles on foot, you will celebrate the rich harvests, diverse cultures, and shared stories that make Tower Hamlets unique.

The tour will highlight not only what is grown, but who grows it — and how you can get involved through volunteering, workshops, and online support. Projects include:

  • Gardens in housing estates

  • Wildlife-friendly nature reserves

  • Spaces for recovery and addiction support

  • Community orchards

  • Guerrilla gardening initiatives

  • Faith-based growing projects

  • Gardens for arts, children, and education

You'll explore how gardens foster wellbeing, build urban food resilience, and reconnect people with nature. Along the way, RTGTH will share practical tips on finding urban growing spaces, spotting fruit trees, and starting community projects through grassroots action.

More than plants — it’s about people. Roots & Routes is about nourishing bodies and relationships, and strengthening connections between gardeners, neighbours, and communities through food, culture, and heritage.

Attendance is limited;secure your spot here!

Sheep Drive 2025: Sunday 28th

This September we will be participating in the annual Sheep Drive event on Southwark Bridge, as we do every year, by holding our usual Farm stall and leading our sheep over the bridge in this fantastic event, which is organised by the Worshipful Company of Woolmen. It keeps alive the ancient rites of Freemen of the City of London by allowing them to walk sheep into the city without paying tax - you can read a blog by us here about the 2023 event.

Come and join us to watch sheep being 'driven' and say hi at our stall!

We are grateful to receive sponsorship this year from the Worshipful Company of Grocers.

That's it for this edition! Thank you for reading.

The Farm is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10.00am to 4.30pm.
We look forward to welcoming you soon.
